Digital literacy provides a level of “future‐proofing” for job seekers, as the skills are critical to jobs at lower risk of future automation. Generally, digital skills enhance analysis and creativity. Baseline skills, such as word processing and spreadsheets, are in demand across a range of occupations and in a range of industries, serving as a doorway to many jobs.

Our Digital Literacy program is intended for a first course in learning about computers and information and communication technologies. No experience with computer is assumed and no mathematics beyond the Junior High School level is required. The Microsoft Office 2016 Suit and Microsoft 10 Operating System are used to teach participants computer basics including operating system features, word processing, spreadsheet, data entry and processing, the Internet and email. Upon successful completion, participants are expected to gain fundamental knowledge and skills to use these applications for business, professional, personal and academic works.

Brief descriptions of the program objectives are as follow:

• —To offer an introduction to information and communication technologies with review of its impact in society as well as in other fields and sectors including but not limited to education, health and medicine, security, business and finance, religion and government.
• —To offer an introduction to computers using Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016.
• —To expose participants to practical usage of information technology in business and personal life.
• —To acquaint participants with the proper procedures to create documents, presentations, worksheets, emails and notes suitable to academic work, professional tasks and personal use.
• —To help participants discover the underlying functionality of Microsoft Office 2016 suite to become more productive.
